Eric started working for West Coast in the mid-1970s, doing summer internships in such fields as maintenance engineering, electrics, plumbing, carpet-laying and painting. He started work as a full-time Property Manager in 1983 after graduating from college.
Eric has owned West Coast since 1993, after buying the business from his father, and has continued to carry on a family tradition of excellence in Property Management. Eric has earned the distinguished Certified Property Manager (CPM) designation and is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and a licensed General Contractor.
Eric was the President of the California Apartment Association in 2006, leading that Association's more than 18,000 members and representing them all over the State and across the nation. Eric continues to serve as a member of CAA's Board of Directors, and has served as the Chair of CAA's Executive Board, and as Chair of CAA's Strategic Planning, Government Affairs, Political Action, Budget and Finance,Ethics, and Forms & Compliance Committees. Eric has been on the Boards of the San Francisco Taxpayer’s Association, the Coalition for Better Housing, the Housing Industry Policy Council and many other industry and local organizations.
Eric is honored to have served as the President of the San Francisco Apartment Association twice – from 2002-2004, and from 2015-2017 - and he has been an active member of the SFAA Board of Directors for almost 25 years. Eric is a long-time member of the Professional Property Management Association, where he served as President for six years and continues to serve on the Board. Eric is the original author of the Residential Tenancy Agreement, currenlty San Francisco's standard residential lease form with more than 50,000 copies in print.
Eric is proud to have helped create the San Francisco Apartment Association Trophy Awards program in 2007. He was honored that year with the very first award, The President's Award. The event has now become an annual celebration, recognizing the Best of the Best in the San Francisco residential housing industry.
Born in San Francisco and was raised on the Peninsula, he now lives in the East Bay. In addition to continuing to serve on the Boards of many industry associations, Eric served on various school committees and on the Board of the local education foundation. Eric is also proud to have served as the President of Scouts for Equality, the national organization that is helping the Boy Scouts of America become more inclusive and welcoming of youth and adult members. Eric also serves on the Board of Advisors of Equality California (EQCA) where he actively supports LGBTQ rights and equality for all. Eric, and his wife Karen, are active supporters of GLAAD, The Trevor Project, HRC and other LGBTQ organizations.
